Who Is Jesus?

Good man?   Myth?   Teacher?   Prophet?   Fraud?   Almighty God?

Crucifixion

The Greatest Agony!

The physical suffering Jesus experienced on the cross is hard enough to grasp.  But there was and even greater anguish he experienced: on the cross, Jesus who was sinless, was polluted with the sins of the world.  And, at that time, he was rejected by God the Father!

The Bible says, he bore our sins in his body on the cross.  It also says that he who knew no sin became sin for us so that in him, so that we might become the righteousness of God.   This is why he cried from the cross, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me."  On the cross, God turned his back on Jesus for the first time in eternity.  This was to bring justice for the sins we had committed, which had to be paid for, and mercy towards us who can now be forgiven by repentance and faith in the risen Chrisit.

On the cross, justice and mercy were done.

- "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed" (1 Peter 2:24).

- "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed [is] every one that hangeth on a tree" (Galatians (3:13).

- "For he hath made him [to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him" (2 Corinthians 5:21).

- "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all" (Isaiah 53:6).  This was a prophecy 100's of years before Christ.
